Portrayals of Prostitution in Jane Eyre :: Jane Eyre Essays
Portrayals of Prostitution in Jane Eyre à Bronte paints many parallels between the characters in the novel and the trade of prostitution. One of the main characters that Bronte attributes poverty to is the character of Jane. Janeââ¬â¢s poverty is intrinsically important to the plot of the novel because Bronte uses Janeââ¬â¢s poverty to allow the reader to picture Jane as a virtuous woman, such as when Jane flees from Thornfield to escape the entrapment of Rochester. The reader is urged to feel sympathy for Jane as she adheres to her strict, virtuous moral codes and does not allow herself to succumb to temptation. Jane exhibits her desperate situation when she has fled from Thornfield and is struggling to sustain herself. Jane states, "Once more I took off my handkerchief-once more I thought of the cakes of bread in the little shop. Oh, but for a crust! For but one mouthful to allay the pang of famine!" (Bronte, ch.28; 323). The language used in the passage shows that Jane is in a state of desperation and she still does not resort to prostitution, even though in many respects she does not have another choice. Jane is at a point in her life where she must do something to sustain her life, but Jane never even contemplates prostitution as an option to enable her to obtain money or food. In Victorian society Janeââ¬â¢s poverty and subsequent life would have rendered her a prime candidate for taking up the trade of prostitution. The description given by Vicinus of the woman most vulnerable to fall victim to the trade of prostitution is similar to Janeââ¬â¢s life. Jane is a domestic servant in her roles as a governess at Lowood and Thornfield and she has no familial ties. One of the dominant distinctions of a Victorian prostitute was her dress or "love of finery." When the love of finery is introduced Bronte veers off the course of identifying Jane with the likeness of a prostitute. The Victorian prostitute is associated with the love of fine dresses, like that of the upper-class society. The prostitute's dress denoted her as a disgraceful and immoral character because she wore the type of dress that was not associated with her class. Valverde states, "â⬠¦What was or was not finery depended upon the socioeconomic status of the wearer" (Valverde 169). The love of finery is relentlessly associated with the Victorian prostitute, but Jane portrays an image of plainness in the attire that she wears. Education and Academic Career
13 Journal Describe an event that has changed your life? Describe an event that has changed your life? It's not the events of our lives that shape us, but our beliefs as to what those events mean. â⬠So almost all of our lifeââ¬â¢s events mean, no matter whether they good or bed, their significance is unique for us. As all people in the world I have had a variety of events in my life, even though not all of them were positive. Nonetheless, an event that has changed my life is coming to study in Greece and undoubtedly I categorize this, as a great event. In addition studying in Greece made me much more independent, socialized and most important it is fulfilling my academic career. Coming to study in Greece developed further my personal independence from my family. The distance from my country and Greece obligate me to live here; therefore, I have to take care of all things which have to do with a life, besides lessons. Moreover, I am much more independent due to the fact that I organize totally my life the way I know; nevertheless, I follow the steps that my family taught me.For instance, I start a random day at 11 am and I am done at 6:30 pm, during this time I stay at ACT campus; afterward, I use some time to explore Thessaloniki city. Furthermore, according to this example of independence my manageable skills are shown as well. Although I always have been friendly, now this concept has much more wider dimensions. Socialization, a great part of human being, is another reason for fulfilling and changing my life while I am in Greece. Here, I know numerous people from different cultures, various backgrounds and friends from countries all over the world.Besides, socialization at American College of Thessaloniki functions very well, ideas, thoughts as well as actions make a perfect social group for me. In addition to personal independence and socialization, another reason for considering studying in Greece as a great event is because studying there is fulfil ling my academic career through quality of education. First of all, I am getting education from professors who have experience and teach us the most essential things. Moreover, they develop our critical thinking, as a way to understand the life better and ercept the world in different view. Second, studying all in English language with an American system make as easier involve in an international job. For example, knowing English helps us be ready in whatever kind of environment in the world. To summarize, this event clearly is very meaningful because my independence is further developed, together with socialization as well as academic career. So, obviously there are three important reasons for considering studying in Greece as an event which has changed my life.

Iron Ore Dressing Technology
Iron ore dressing technology Magnetite ore dressing mainly use magnetic separator for sorting of low grade magnetite. Due to the strong magnetic ore,it is good wear and good election,Domestic magnetic separation plants use stage grinding and multi-stage grinding process, the coarse grained dissemination magnetite use the former process(one stage grinding),fine particle and micro-fine particle-disseminated magnetite using the latter (two or three stage grinding);Weakly magnetic iron ore dressing, is mainly used for separation of hematite, limonite, hematite, siderite, hematite or mixed ore,the so-called ââ¬Å"Red Rockâ⬠.Grade of this kind ores is low, they have fine dissemination size, complex mineral composition, difficult sorting. http://www. shzbm. com rotary kiln http://www. pe750. com jaw crusher dressing technology for roasting, wet high intensity magnetic separation, weak magnetic flotation, and the gravity concentration process,Equipment and new varieties of pharmaceutical research improve continuously, so that the concentrate grade, metal recovery improve continuously. buy custom A Peopleââ¬â¢s History of the United States essay
buy custom A Peopleââ¬â¢s History of the United States essay Question 1 I am an English Immigrant who came to Virginia as an indenture servant in 1649 at the age of 18. After our entire estate was seized by the Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil war, my father was forced to send me to this place for five years. My master is harsh and strict when it comes to work. He forces me and my fellow servants to work from dawn to dark without any food in our stomachs. My daily chores include; house service, gardening and milking, shearing sheep, building burns, taking care of children and occasionally helping out fellow servants in the fields. Anytime I make a petty mistake, my master always whips me severely. Life in this farm is miserable, because I do not have any cloth to put on my frail body, no food to put on my empty stomach and no place to rest my tired body at the end of the day. In my contract, it was stipulated that my master should help me get some education, education; award me with several animals and a piece of land after servitude. Therefore, I am assured of a bright future after serving my master for these five years. I will use this freedom package to better my life. For instant, I will cultivate my land and sale the proceeds to other residents. After establishing myself, I will marry the woman of my dreams and have a happy family of my own. My major future prospect is to become a successive land owner just like my hero Anthony Johnson. Question 2 European men signed indentures for different reasons. During the seventeenth century, Europe was full of poor men and women. Most of them were landless farmers and tenants, who had been driven away from their lands due to the introduction of sheep grazing, changes in agriculture, the English civil war. Others signed these indentures because their masters in England had no more use for people who used to labor on the transformed fields (Galenson, 2004). Add to this, freed prisoners as well soldiers who had been released from the navy or army were penniless. Some courts would ask criminals to choose between being executed and being deported to the colonies, and most of them woud choose the later. By signing an indenture, a poor European man or woman would be given a chance to immigrate to the New World of Honey and Milk. This was a big hurdle for these young men and women because crossing the Atlantic was not cheap. These men and women also signed the indenture because they were assured of a better life because of the awaiting jobs, food and shelter. The above discourse reveals that those who signed indentures did it willfully. Nevertheless, some historical forces also compelled these young men and women to sign indentures. For example, overpopulation and poverty compelled people to sign indentures. It is asserted that some colonies allowed Europe to offset their overpopulated towns and cities. Question 3 After many years of an iron-fist control of the colonies by Native Americans, the up-rise of poor whites, former indentured servants and slaves posed a major threat to the elites control. Led by 29 year-old Nathaniel Bacon, lower class citizens in Virginia rebelled against the elites control of Jamestown. This led to a conflict between the Indians and the poor whites and blacks (Zinn, 2010). The poor whites and poor blacks wanted to eliminate all elites, who comprised of Indians and supported by Governor William Berkeley. Bacon encouraged the poor to defend and take what was rightfully theirs (Public Broadcasting Service, nda, par, 1). The elites were opposed to the Governors policies that favored the elites at the expense of the poor. The non-land owners and Yeoman farmers were infuriated with the Indians because they stood in the way of their expansion. After capturing and killing several captives (enemies), the elites realized that their control was coming to an end. This rebellion exhibited that poor blacks and poor whites could come together and fight for a common cause. This elicited great fear among the elites because they realized that nothing could hinder the poor from coming together to fight them. As a result, this fear led to the adoption of racial slavery in the following years. To prevent such incidents from occurring in the future, the wealthy and thhe rich compelled the legislature to pass laws that would punish rebellious servants (Zinn, 2010). Question 4 The institution of African slavery in colonial America was characterized with the ownership of humans as pieces of movable property or chattels. As chattels, black slaves were compelled to slavery for life. One pragmatic reason as to why black slaves were treated as chattels is because of their skin color. Naturally, the whites considered Africans as being inferior in every aspect of life. Therefore, they had to show this in actions by treating them as property. Another pragmatic reason as to why slaves were being treated as property is because of the fact that the whites used money to acquire them. Pragmatically, anything bought is rightfully yours, therefore, one has a right of doing anything he or she wishes to that thing. Question 5 The Stono Rebellion, which started on 9 September 1739, is arguably the biggest slave uprising in colonial America. Although the real cause of this rebellion is not clear, historians attribute it to the tension between Spain and England (Davis, par, 1). As a result of the animosity between the two colonial powers, the Spanish government in Florida proclaimed that all slaves who found their way to St. Augustine would be given freedom and land. The though of being free and given land led many slaves in a killing spree that lasted for almost two days. Another issue that might have triggered this rebellion was the looming Security Act (Public Broadcasting Service, ndb, par 2). This Act allowed all white men to carry guns on Sunday while going to church in reaction to an impending insurrection. This act did not augur well with the blacks, thus a rebellion culminated. At the end of the rebellion, the Negro Act was quickly finalized and enacted. This act compelled the slaves to face the consequences of the revolt. The main aim of this act was to limit the privileges of the slaves. From that time on, slaves were not allowed to assemble in small groups, cultivate their own food, and learn to read, or even earn their own money. Looking At The Themes Of Madame Bovary English Literature Essay Essays
Looking At The Themes Of Madame Bovary English Literature Essay Essays Looking At The Themes Of Madame Bovary English Literature Essay Paper Looking At The Themes Of Madame Bovary English Literature Essay Paper Essay Topic: Anna Karenina Equus Anna Karenina and Madame Bovary are exceeding literary plants which are well-known internationally and have been translated from the original linguistic communications of Russian and Gallic into many other linguistic communications. The popularity of these novels is chiefly due to the subject of unfaithfulness put frontward by Leo Tolstoy in Anna Karenina and by Gustave Flaubert in Madame Bovary. The grounds for these novels being regarded above all else as authoritative novels of unfaithfulness, is due to the exceeding use of this subject in developing the secret plan of the novels and learning a moral lesson to the readers. Besides, the construct of composing about a common quandary that no 1 dared talk of at the clip, allow entirely compose of, has made these novels stand the trial of clip. Due to the common subject of unfaithfulness the two novels are invariably compared. One Russian poet dubbed Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary s Russian cousin 1. However, the development and intent of the subject of unfaithfulness in these novels has both similarities and unsimilarities, which can be investigated utilizing textual grounds and critical theories. The clip of the induction of unfaithfulness in Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina differ, nevertheless to do an accurate judgement, the significances of unfaithfulness, libido, and Platonic love must be defined. The characters who commit Acts of the Apostless of unfaithfulness will be introduced and compared. The grounds for Acts of the Apostless of unfaithfulness will be looked upon utilizing a Romanticism versus Neoclassicism attack. The usage of binary resistance in developing this subject will be discussed. Some of the common literary devices in the two texts, that help to develop the subject of unfaithfulness, will be explained, including ; subject of matrimony, motive of being trapped in and motive of deficiency of communicating. Finally, the emotional influence of unfaithfulness on the hubbies of the two adult females, will be evaluated. Infidelity is a instead controversial word ; the Oxford lexicon may specify it as unfaithfulness to 1s sexual spouse 3, but in world, the significance of this word depends on the point of position of the individual who s specifying it, and this makes it hard to place the induction of unfaithfulness in both novels. Some may see unfaithfulness as sexual treachery ; some may see it as emotional treachery, and some both. Libido ( sexual forces ) is a cause of sexual infidelity, and Platonic love is a cause of emotional infidelity. It could be said that clear and direct mention to unfaithfulness in Anna Karenina is made in the 3rd line of the first chapter, where it is said that Oblonsky s married woman has found out that he has been holding an matter with the Gallic governess who used to populate with them, and told him she could no longer remain under the same roof with him. 2 As for Madame Bovary, the subject of unfaithfulness develops more bit by bit, and direct mention is made on page 152 of chapter 9.Anna Karenina consists of emotional and physical unfaithfulness where Madame Bovary majorly consists of physical unfaithfulness. This can be proven through the usage of imagination in Madame Bovary. The image of a Galloping Equus caballus is frequently created in Madame Bovary, which is a mark of libido. However this is non the instance in Anna Karenina. In Madame Bovary there is one character who commits Acts of the Apostless of criminal conversation and unfaithfulness, Emma Bovary. However, Anna, Oblonsky ( Stiva ) and Vronsky all give in to such Acts of the Apostless in Anna Karenina. There are certain qualities belonging to these characters, which we can associate to their actions. Anna, Stiva and Vronsky are all from the higher category blue society, therefore their fiscal independency causes them to experience a sort of emotional freedom. On the contrary, Emma is financially dependent and can non afford the life she pleases to hold ; this causes her to prosecute extramarital Acts of the Apostless in return for fiscal support and favours. Emma and Anna are beautiful and elegant yet they do non hold strong ethical motives and they rail emotionally against the society. Stiva and Vronsky are rich and charming, therefore they are uncommitted due the feeling that they are on top of the society. Though the society in both novels is ma le dominated, all of these unfaithful characters are dominant in relationships with those around them, including the adult females. The characters could be said to hold an idealistic nature, and they long to hold the perfect romantic lives which neither of the married 1s ( all besides Vronsky ) have. Anna, Emma, and Vronsky are great readers, and this reading kind of provides an flight of ordinary life into a perfect, fantasy world. It is said that Emma dreams of the purest, most impossible signifiers of love and wealth, disregarding whatever beauty is present in the universe around her. 3 Anna is an ideal blue Russian married woman of the 1870 s. She is a beautiful, elegant, educated, passionate adult female. She enjoys reading and is guilty of profaning her matrimony and place, but is baronial and admirable nonetheless. 4 Infidelity is partially due to the emotional instability of the characters personalities. This could be described through the artistic, literary and intellectual5 motions of Neoclassicism and Romanticism. Neoclassicism originated in the 2nd half of the eighteenth century and was the age of enlightenment, when it was believe vitamin D that everything must be logical and formulated. Neoclassic believed that nature should be peaceable and harmonic. Romanticism was born in 19th century during the Gallic revolution. Romantic believed that adult male should be free, and nature should be wild and cryptic. The characters which are heathen in these novels are excessively Romantic . They rely excessively much on their emotions or passions instead than their logical thinking. Vronsky makes a realisation near the terminal of the novel, where It is stated that It showed him the ageless mistake work forces make in conceive ofing that felicity consists in the realisation of their desires . If the characters were able to keep a balance between emotion and ground, it would hold prevented their unfortunate destinies. In developing the subject of unfaithfulness, Flaubert and Tolstoy make great usage of binary resistance. Charles faithful nature is in contrast to Emma s fraudulence. Charles is really honorable with Emma, and tells her everything about his day-to-day life and patients whereas Emma fells so many things from him. Emma s idealistic behaviour, seeable in the accent put on her mode of feeding, elegant closet and wont of reading provides an mutual exclusiveness with Charles realistic and less romantic nature, which leads to Emma s hunt for her thought of flawlessness and love affair. Besides, the successful elderly matrimonies of the members of the vicinities in which Emma and Charles live supply an resistance to their unsuccessful matrimony. In Anna Karenina, Levin s love and fidelity towards Kitty provides as negative comparing with Stiva s love matter, and the criminal conversation of Anna with Vronsky. Levin s belief in monogamy emphasizes on Stiva s belief in sexual freedom. Dolly is in resistance to Anna in the sense that Dolly is the perpetrator in her relationship with her hubby whereas Anna is the offender. There are many literary devices that help to develop the subject of Infidelity, including the subject of matrimony, motive of being trapped in and motive of deficiency of communicating. The subject of matrimony foreshadows the subject of unfaithfulness. Before Charles marries Emma, her holding a love matter would non be considered every bit unfaithfulness as she is non emotionally and lawfully bound. The same is true for the other characters. Dissatisfaction with matrimonial lives causes Acts of the Apostless of criminal conversation and emotional unfaithfulness. Even those who are satisfied with their matrimonial lives, a good illustration being Levin, stress the dissatisfaction of the others. Therefore the subject of matrimony contributes greatly to the subject of unfaithfulness. The motive of being trapped in histories for Anna and Emma. The belief that they are trapped in a male dominated society causes them to see adultery as a manner for independency and a room access to emotional freedom. The motive of deficiency of communicating between hubby and married woman makes the characters start a hunt for love and understanding exterior of their places, and this excessively contributes to their disloyalty. Charles suspects that Emma is holding an matter, but as he is really optimistic and simple-minded he ignores his inherent aptitudes and continues to believe that she is faithful to him. However, after her self-destruction when he finds her love letters, he is emotionally destructed. Karenin rapidly realizes when Anna starts an matter, and ignores it at foremost at the hope of it stoping, but asks for a divorce when he sees that Anna is non giving up her love matter. Then after she kills herself he feels a little sum of sympathy towards her, and finds redemption from his sorrow in faith.

Financial Institutions Management Research Paper
Financial Institutions Management - Research Paper Example Berger et al (1995) provide that a bankââ¬â¢s market capital requirements as the capital ratio that increases the value of a bank in the absence of regulatory capital essentials. In the following parts of this paper, first depository institutions working in the Australia have been elaborated. It is followed by the ANZ De-composition analysis, highlighting the profit margin and other factors. Subsequent to that, it is followed by the calculation of the duration of ANZââ¬â¢s assets and liabilities. Within that part, the evaluation has been added to define the impacts and representation of different terms. It is followed by the part yield curve mentioning the impact of a 10 basis point upward. Regulatory framework for depository institutions (500) There are two major depository institutions (DI) groups working in Australia. Banks and the non-bank depository institutions are authorized to deal with and provide related financial services. In Australia, the Australian Prudential Regu lation Authority (APRA) is the central body authorizing the financial institutions to conduct the financial intermediation. With the passage of time, the size of banks has substantially increased by volume and number of banks and bank branches. Particularly in 2005, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia remained the largest bank having total assets of $ 258.93 billion and held first rank till the end of 2005. Subsequent to that, National Australia Bank, Westpac and ANZ Banking Group were secured second, third and fourth positions respectively. Banks have the largest depository institutions as far as their size is concerned as they offer and provide a wide range of different products and services to the customers. The significant distinction between the banks and savings and credit unions, known as non-banking depository institutions, is that the banks do not have limited or particular types of assets or liabilities rather banks own a variety of assets and liabilities. For example, the ANZ possessed total assets $ 594,488 and $ 531,703 million in 2011 and 2010 respectively. Aggregately, the institutions aggregate growth in the total assets was recorded around 11.81 percent during that period; total liabilities remained $ 556,634 and 397548 million in 2011 and 2010 respectively along with the total growth was 11.85 percent during that period. In addition to that, further difference between these segments includes the differences in operating features along with different profitability across the size classes. Commercial loan portfolio, higher business venture funding, capital intensive support for the giant multi-national banks are some of the key operating features differences exist between the banks and other credit and savings depository institutions. During the period from 1985 to 2005, the aggregate number of banks operating inside Australia has gone up from 13 to 49. During that period, the growth driving factors include the presence of relaxation of entry re quirements and amendments in the regulatory framework and requirements of non-depository institutions. Over a period of time, the APRA has considerably revisited the regulatory policy pertaining to banking and other commercial-cum-financial activities in the country.

Discussion 2 Week 7 Award Fee Contracts Assignment
Discussion 2 Week 7 Award Fee Contracts - Assignment Example 2. Discuss whether contractors provide better work with an award fee. Include in your discussion on whether or not they are incentivized by the better profit potential of an award-fee contract. Support your position with an example. One strongly believes that contractors provide better work with an award fee. As defined, an award fee ââ¬Å"is an amount of money that a contractor may earn in whole or in part by meeting or exceeding subjective criteria stated in an award fee planâ⬠(US Government Accountability Office, 2009, p. 1). It is a form of motivation or incentive that contractors could avail for exceeding expectations or exhibiting exemplary performance. For instance, a contractor is supposed to complete a painting of a government building in two weeksââ¬â¢ time using total costs of materials amounting to $50,000. If the contactor is able to complete the project in one weekââ¬â¢s time and with savings amounting to $5,000, then, the contractor could be given an award fee. The provision would enable the contractor to gain a positive image, in addition to the award fee and would be considered a plus factor for future contracting projects. US Government Accountability Office. (2009, August 3). 1. From the e-Activity, discuss whether or not the agencies mentioned took any actions that reflected the suggestions provided by the Office of Management and Budget. If you think actions were taken, state what actions were taken and explain why those act. Retrieved from gao.gov:
